The good news is that no matter who is supplying our surveillance technology, we can rest easy knowing that our movements, behaviors, and associations are being tracked, analyzed, and monetized to enrich some of the worst people on the planet. 

Over and over again, residents have been opted into mass data collection without anything resembling an open and democratic process of deliberation. And even when City Hall does stoop to let the unwashed masses weigh in, there is no evidence that our concerns are taken seriously.
